The research shows that the types of iron ore deposits in China are diverse and the metallogenic epoch spanned from the Archean to the Cenozoic, which mainly includes seven types [1 – 6].
This chapter reviews the types, reserves, and distribution of iron ore deposits in China, as well as the mineral processing and metallurgy technology. China is the world's largest importer of iron ore, but also has abundant low-grade ores and diverse metallogenic epochs.
China has a relatively great ore-searching potential of iron ores, especially for metamorphosed sedimentary, skarn, and marine volcanic-hosted iron deposits. For the lower guarantee degree of iron and steel industry, China should give a trading and open the foreign mining markets.
The iron deposits in China are divided into six types: sedimentary–metamorphic, magmatic Fe–Ti– (V), volcanic rock-hosted, contact metasomatic–hydrothermal (mostly skarn), sedimentary, and weathering–leaching type.
The predominant types of high-grade iron deposits in China include skarn, sedimentary metamorphic (banded iron-formation, BIF-type), continental/submarine volcanic-hosted and magmatic Fe-Ti-V oxide deposits.

On the basis of ore-forming age, ore-bearing formation, mineral assemblage, and grade of the ores, the BIF-related iron deposits in China can be classified into seven types: Anshan-type, Yuanjiacun-type, Dalizi-type, Jingtieshan-type, Xinyu-type, Gongg-type and Shilu-type.
