They are a nice sweet mill. Mike Gorton from the Gorton web site may be able to tell you when they started putting a No. 40 taper in them, it would have to be in the late 60's. If they ever did in the 9-J's.

Does anyone have any information on a smaller Gorton vertical mill? The table on this machine is only 9 x 24. No luck on Tony's lathe site and everything else I find on the web are for much bigger machines. I'd like to figure out what spindle this machine has, if the head tilts, and any other Specs.
Just picked up a Gorton 9J, Have a question, not sure if I should place question in Kearney Trecker, group or not, my mill is older than when Kearney Trecker purchased Gorton. Anyway, I am trying to remove the front pulley, have removed all above pulley hardware, notched nut, bolts, Draw bar etc. Cannot remove the pulley.
